Dungannon to Malin Head, 25thAugust 2015

The eternal dichotomy of cycling strikes home after the straight, fast but kind of busy road to Cookstown then becomes quiet, and hilly. Much slower, but much nicer, with some absolutely ripping raspberry bushes heading up into the Sperrin hills. I suppose if I had to make the choice it would be the hilly quiet every time, but I know it is eminently possible to have fast and nice.

Having said that, if I was doing it again I would seriously contemplate going via the River Bann and Coleraine, as in total there was over 1,400m of climbing on today's route, nevertheless, I didn't get off, and I got a lot of it back. The tail wind was usefull, I did the 7 k to the imminent ferry in 16 minutes

The weather kind of teases you, never quite raining enough to make you dive for cover, but enough to get you irrevocably wet without realising it until it's too late. The coast road to Malin Head from Malin is definitely the correct option.

Stay at the Sandrock Hostel near Malin Head, but make sure you know how to find it!
